Gladys Myers

In September of 1995, my grandma Gladys Myers, whom I loved and cared about more than the world, passed away. She never understood computers and most certainly didn't understand the web (which was AOL at best at the time). But she did know it would be important and set me on the path to what I would become my future career by providing me with the tools necessary to be successful (she bought me my first computer... and an Apple IIc)

In 1996, I dedicated the first version of the  "Presslandia" website to her.  I hoped a website would be a lasting memory of her on this thing called the "Internet".  If you are reading this now, it worked! While having a website to honor my grandma may seem silly (especially since my grandma wouldn't even use a microwave willingly), it isn't the only thing I have done to keep her close to me. To honor her and the important role she played in my life, I named my first son after her - "Gabe" (as close as I could get to Gladys for a boy). 5 years later, I had a daughter, Maya, who is also named after Gladys...but using her last name.

My grandmother was always there for my mom and me. She loved us unconditionally and devoted herself to making sure we had a good life. She taught me how to be a good person, and hopefully a good father. I definitely never thanked her enough for what she did for me. I will always feel guilty about that. But maybe she has an internet connection wherever she is, and she can read this now. 

Thank you, Grandma. I will always love you. I miss you.
